Education regarding exercise, proper nutrition, and preventative care are an ever increasing necessity in a society facing afflictions from ailments and disease. Many of these afflictions, such as diabetes, can be prevented, or managed with proper guidance. Our lifestyle choices often play a major role in our overall health and well being.

Diabetes is a condition in which the body does not make, makes too little, or can’t properly utilize insulin (a hormone produced in the pancreas responsible for regulating the level of glucose). This results in hyperglycemia, or excessive amounts of blood sugar. If not properly managed, diabetes may increase the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, gangrene, hypertension, and stroke.

Some of the symptoms of diabetes are blurred vision, increased hunger, increased thirst, constant fatigue/lethargy, headaches, and frequent urination.

Complications of diabetes

Excessive blood sugar may have a strong negative impact on kidneys and the liver, which may result in kidney disease and liver disease respectively.

Circulatory problems caused by diabetes may result in damage to nerves. Clogging (and "furring up") of blood vessels may occur if hypertension and high cholesterol exist in the individual. This could result in damage to the heart, legs, brain, and other parts of the body that have large blood vessels.

Types of diabetes

Type I (insulin dependent)

Type I diabetes; also know as juvenile diabetes, is a condition in which the body does not produce insulin, therefore it has to be administered. It is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. Checking glucose levels and knowing when to take insulin is extremely important. Although incurable, proper nutrition and exercise, which we will discuss later, are ways to manage this type.

Type II (insulin non-dependent)

In cases of type II diabetes, the body does not make enough insulin, or it cannot use the insulin properly. It is often diagnosed in overweight adults. Cases of this type are diagnosed significantly more than type I. living a healthy, active lifestyle may help to prevent this type; individuals who have developed type II diabetes may be able to reduce, or alleviate themselves of the disorder altogether by living a healthy lifestyle.

Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes occurs in women that are pregnant, and although it usually subsides after giving birth, it may indicate an increased risk of the individual eventually developing type II diabetes if steps to avoid it aren’t taken.

According to the Centers for disease control, diabetes affects approximately 24 million people in the United States (according to the projection conducted in the year 2007).

Weight loss and diabetes

An important aspect of managing diabetes is managing weight. Reducing excess weight and keeping body fat low has been shown to reduce (or, in some cases eliminate) risk associated with the disorder in type II.

The importance of proper nutrition

Carbohydrates

There are three types of carbohydrates; low glycemic (complex, or slow burning carbs), high glycemic (simple, or fast burning carbs), and dietary fiber (indigestible part of vegetation).

Examples of carbohydrate sources to include in a meal plan.

Oats

Leafy green vegetables

Whole grains

Vegetables such as broccoli, carrots, and green beans

fruits

Carbohydrate intake should revolve around activity level and consist of low glycemic foods. By spreading carbohydrates out throughout the day, and using activity level to aid in calculating the caloric need for carbs (checking glucose with a glucometer is the primary way), those with diabetes could avoid a rise (hyperglycemia), or fall (hypoglycemia) of blood sugar.

Fats

There are four types of fat; saturated fat, unsaturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol.

When planning meals, focus should be placed on unsaturated fats. While saturated and trans fats have a negative impact on blood pressure and cholesterol, healthy, unsaturated fats actually have a tendency to raise HDL’s (good cholesterol)levels.

Keep dietary cholesterol low to avoid raising LDL’s (bad cholesterol)

Examples of fat sources to include in a meal plan.

Olive oil

Canola oil

Nuts/seeds

Avocados

Protein

Protein is responsible for building muscle and plays a large role in keeping the body in an anabolic (or "building up") state.

Although intake amounts vary per individual, protein should be consumed with every meal.

Examples of protein sources to include in a meal plan.

Fish

Poultry

Legumes

nuts

Exercise and diabetes

In addition to potential fat loss, (this could result in healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels), exercise promotes better cardiovascular and circulatory health. This lowers the risk of diabetic complications.

It’s a good idea to test glucose levels before and after training. This aids in determining dietary needs, as well as the best exercise intensity level.

Proper training

Those with type I diabetes should keep workouts short (20-30 minutes) and of a low to moderate intensity to avoid drastic changes in blood sugar level.

Example exercise routine (type I)

M- 15 minutes of moderate cardio (treadmill), dumbbell press 15 reps x 2 sets, cable pull downs 15 x 2sets, cable fly’s 15 x 1 set

T- 10 minutes low-moderate cardio (treadmill), leg extensions 15 x 2 sets, leg curls 15 x 2 sets; squats 20 x 1 set, lunges 15 x 1 set calf raises 20 x 2 set

W-20 minutes low intensity cardio (treadmill) bicep curls 10 x2 sets, overhead press 15 x 1 set, forward later raise 10 x 1 set, side lateral raise 10 x 1 set

TH- squats 10 x 2 sets, lat pull downs 15 x3 sets; bent over row 10 x 1 set, dead lift 10 x 1 set,

F- 20 minutes of moderate

SA- off

S- Off

Those with type two may find a longer work out of 45-60 minutes to be more beneficial, it could help them achieve a greater level of fat loss. Excess body fat may have contributed to the disorder, so by lowering their body fat percentage, they may be able to control, or rid themselves of the disease.

Example exercise plan (type II)

M- 15 minutes low intensity cardio, 20 minutes of moderate cardio, 10 minutes low intensity cardio

T-bench press 15 reps x 3 sets; incline bench press 15 x 2 set; decline bench press 15 x 2 set; cable pull downs 15 x 2sets; triceps extensions 10 x 2 sets; cable flies 10 x 2; 10 minutes low intensity cardio

W-15 minutes low intensity cardio, 25 minutes moderate cardio, and 10 minutes low intensity cardio

TH-lat pull downs 10 x 2, overhead press 10 x 2, seated cable row 15 x 2, forward lateral raise 10 x 2, side lateral raise 10×2, bicep curls 10 x 3, preacher curls 10×2, shoulder shrugs 15 x 2

F- Squats 15 x 2, leg extensions (single leg) 10 x2, leg extensions (both legs) 10 x 2, leg curls 10 x 3, calf raises 15 x 3, 10 minutes of low intensity cardio

SA-15 minutes low intensity cardio, 30 minutes moderate cardio, and 15 minutes low intensity cardio

S-off

A full workout plan is determined after performance of these types of plans for 1 week (unless changes are needed sooner). Heart rate, glucose levels, ability to perform each task, as well as clients exercise preferences will all play a role in writing a suitable workout schedule.

The choices we make play a big part in our overall health; by living a healthy lifestyle, you greatly increase your chances of preventing, managing, or even eliminating diabetes.

Managing blood sugar is a matter of life or death for diabetics, but most people simply take it for granted because their body will do it automatically. This is not the case for diabetics. If you are diabetic you need to learn how to work with your body to help it maintain a balanced blood sugar level. For diabetics, healthy eating is a life or death matter.

Ensure that each meal or snack contains lean protein, good complex carbohydrates and as little fat as possible. Reduce or eliminate your intake of "bad" carbohydrates such as sugary sweets and starchy grains, breads and potatoes. Be mindful of your intake of certain ‘bad’ fats (animal fats are especially bad).

Eat a small meal or snack every 2 to 3 hours - going too long between meals is very bad for diabetics. Consult with your doctor or a diabetic educator to learn what is the best choice for you regarding meal timing.

Carefully plan out your portion sizes at meals and snacks. Too much or too little can dramatically impact the fluctuations of your glucose levels. A dietician can show you how to properly measure your portions. A rule of thumb for protein (in the form of lean meat) is a serving about the same size as a deck of cards.

Here are more healthy eating and cooking tips for diabetics. Avoid deep fried foods - the extra fat is no good for you. Instead grill or broil your meats and vegetables - and drain off the excess liquids. Use a cooking spray instead of butter, or else use a small amount of vegetable oil.

Avoid adding sugar to foods for flavoring, instead use other spices and flavorings such as lemon juice, mustards, herbs, spices, garlic, extracts such as vanilla or almond, vinegar, peppers, salsa. Whenever a recipe calls for oil, use canola or olive oil.

Back off the extra fats. Trim fat off meats, take the skin off chicken and turkey. Use reduced-fat salad dressings and mayonnaise and cheese. Use skim or low-fat milk, cheese, and dairy products such as yogurts.

Any fat that turns to solid when cooled should be avoided. This includes lard and shortening as well as bacon fat and butter.

If you’re going to eat out - plan ahead before you go. This is especially true if you are taking insulin or diabetic pills. Avoid fried foods and extra salt. Ask for any sauces to be served on the side. Avoid starchy carbs and sugary sweets. Before drinking alcohol, discuss it with your doctor.

These tips are helpful for diabetics but nothing can take the place of asking your doctor personally. Visit with your doctor or diabetic educator if you have further questions about diabetes and diet.

Diabetes is a common disease that is affecting a million of people right around the world and the figure is rising every year. General nutrition guidelines should be followed to maintain blood sugar level to avoid complications.

Controlling blood sugar is the key to staying healthy.

First and foremost step is to know about the disease completely before starting to get ready for its cure.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that prevents the body from utilizing glucose completely or partially. There are three types of diabetes:

1. type I diabetes mellitus (insulin dependent)

2. type II diabetes mellitus (non insulin dependent)

3. gestational diabetes

The symptoms seen in a diabetic patient are:

1. Increased thirst.
2. Frequent urination.
3. Increase in appetite.
4. Weight loss in type I.
5. Obesity in type II.
6. Skin irritation.
7. Decrease in healing capacity.
8. Cuts and blisters, red spots, swelling in the feet.

Basics steps to be taken by the patient to control blood sugar are:

Regular Monitoring Blood Sugar Level:

Blood sugar should be tested on a regular basis. Records should be maintained of the blood tests, medicines and daily events. Patient should ask for a haemoglobin AIC test at least twice a year. Should do a regular blood pressure check ups cholesterol tests and other blood related tests. At least once a year have a dilated eye exam to check for eye disease, foot exam to check circulation and urine test to check kidney function. Reviews should be made with the health care provider.

Limit Sugar Intake

Most people think that sugar is only present in sweet foods such as chocolates, pasties or ice cream but in reality a large amount of refined carbohydrates such as white flours, bread, and white rice are easily converted into glucose as well. Person should avoid alcohol and smoking. Smoking damages health circulatory system which can lead to heart disease and poor circulation for people with diabetes.

Get Fiber and Protein

Diet plan should include fiber in form of raw fruits, vegetables, whole cereals etc. Wheat bran should be added to wheat flour. This will increase fiber in diet. Flaxseed and fenugreek seeds can be added into the wheat flour. Cholesterol-lowering oatmeal can be taken in breakfast. White meat such as chicken, Fish and shellfish are good for diabetics. Cinnamon, garlic, onion, bitter melon and guar gum are good to reduce blood glucose level.

Get Physical Activity

After consulting the concerned doctor the patient should indulge in a regular physical activity. For starters slow walking and swimming is advised. Yoga is also a good option. All the activities should include a stress free life.

Natural Home Remedies

Few natural home remedies too can be tried at home to control sugar.

1. Boil 15 fresh mango leaves in 1 glass of water. Leave overnight. Filter and drink first thing in the morning.

2. Drink a watery juice of a small bitter guard (remove seeds) every morning.

3. Eat tender curry leaves twice a day to reduce sugar

4. Take a juice of crushed fish berry soaked in water for a day first thing in the morning.

Controlling blood sugar levels is an art. If you want to be an expert in it, you should know the full details in Diabetic Foods to Eat AND Diabetes Foods to Avoid.

Diabetes is caused by excessive glucose in the blood and it is one of the most common chronic diseases in the adult and child. Most of the persons even don’t know that they have this disease. With India having highest number of diabetic patients, this disease is converting itself from epidemic to pandemic. Thanks to our hectic life style and bad habits which are working as a fuel to the fire.

Why diabetes occurs: Our body uses glucose as a source of energy. After we have our meal the amount of glucose increases in our blood. A special type of enzyme called insulin converts this glucose to the energy and after that conversion the level of sugar in our blood comes to normal. But in a diabetic patient either pancreas cell either don’t make insulin or unable to use insulin. Without insulin our blood can absorb glucose directly and this excess glucose accumulated in the blood cell and can cause harm to blood vessels, eyes and nerves.

Food Guide: food is primary source of energy and it plays an important role in determining the level of sugar in the blood. Having diabetes it is essential for you to plan your diet meticulously. For this first step would be to consult with your doctor or physician regarding the diet. Some physician recommends to have diabetes food product and this could be a additional burden on your pocket. But more or less the key to the food which a diabetic patient should have should be

1. Low in fat

2. Low in sugar

3. Low in salt

4. High in fiber

Now this could be a daunting task for a novice diabetic patient who is used to of having all of this. But nothing is above your health and if you want to get rid of this diabetes then you have to adopt an balance diet. Eat a lot of fruits which is rich source of the fiber.Fruits dissipates energy in the blood in a controlled manner. Eat vegetable like onion, garlic, ginger, radish, spinach, kale; cucumber, carrot, tomato, cabbage and cucumber are excellent in the treatment of diabetes. Drink a lot of water and Exercise daily. A little exercise helps the blood cells to use insulin effectively.

Food to avoid:

Sugar Rich food: Sugar rich food is scourge of the disease hence it is advised to ignore those food which are high in carbohydrate like Ice-cream, donuts, pastries, chocolates, cookies, artificial sweeteners, etc.

High cholesterol food: High cholesterol food like egg yolks, high-fat dairy products, poultry, etc should be avoided because it makes a person vulnerable to the heart disease by increasing the bad cholesterol in presence of diabetes.

Alcoholic beverages: consumption of excess alcohol can damage the liver which is responsible for storing the glucose in the body hence should be strictly avoided.

Fried Food: Fried food increases bad cholesterol in the blood and hence it should be avoided and if you are planning to have this then this should be fried in olive oil.

In this two part series, I will discuss some of the key points about diabetes mellitus. We will cover what the disease is, its different types of manifestations, how it is diagnosed and managed and the importance of good diabetic control in reducing complications.

The Importance of Glucose

Before we discuss what diabetes mellitus is, it is important to understand the role of glucose in the human body. Glucose is the smallest unit that all sugars can be broken down into. Glucose is obtained from our diet when we eat carbohydrates. You can think of carbohydrates as being long chains of glucose molecules stuck end to end. When we eat foods that contain carbohydrates (starch, fructose, lactose) our body digests, or breaks down, these bigger molecules into the smallest unit called glucose.

So why does the body break all carbohydrates down to glucose? Well glucose is our body’s primary source of fuel. The human body combines glucose with oxygen to release energy (note: this is an over simplification but fundamentally true). The human brain dislikes using any other source of fuel. We can use fats, however this isn’t as efficient, and so our bodies tend to store fats and use them as a back up.

The body breaks down the carbohydrates into glucose molecules. This occurs at multiple sites, but is usually complete by the time it reaches your small bowel. The glucose is then absorbed into your blood stream. So soon after a meal, you will have surge of glucose.

This surge of glucose in your blood stream is detected by an organ called the pancreas. The pancreas is an organ that produces various chemicals that are released in the small bowel to aid digestion, however it also releases a special hormone in to the blood stream known as insulin. If there was no insulin, or not enough insulin, most of the glucose would remain locked in our blood stream. To get the glucose to where it’s needed, (brain, muscles etc) you will need the hormone insulin.

The pancreas secretes insulin in response to rising blood sugars. It aims to keep blood sugar levels relatively constant and ensure that glucose is taken up by parts of the body that require it.

What is Diabetes Mellitus?

Diabetes mellitus is a condition where the pancreas either doesn’t produce any insulin or doesn’t produce enough. From what we have discussed above, you can see that this would cause glucose to remain locked in the blood stream. This is why diabetic patients who are not well controlled on treatment, or have no treatment, have high blood sugar (glucose). We know that diabetes is an autoimmune condition. This means that the body’s immune system attacks the pancreas. There is some evidence to suggest that this has something to do with genetics; however, it is also acknowledged that various environmental factors such as viral infections play an important role in type 1 diabetes. In type 2, factors like weight, high blood pressure and lack of exercise are also to blame.

Types of Diabetes

There are many different types of diabetes, I will concentrate on what I regard as the three main types: type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes is also known as early onset diabetes and insulin dependent diabetes. It commonly diagnosed at an early age, though not exclusively. Type 1 diabetes presents with a complete failure of insulin production from the pancreas. First time presentation can often be due to serous illness due to a condition called ketoacidosis, more about this in a future article.

Type 2 diabetes, also referred to as late onset or non-insulin dependant diabetes, tends to present later in life. In type 2, the pancreas still manages to produce some insulin, though usually not enough. Also tissues like brain and muscle tend not to be as sensitive to insulin as compared with non-diabetics.

Gestational diabetes, as the name suggests, occurs during pregnancy. It is thought that gestational diabetes occurs in about 2-5% of pregnancies, though figures vary according to different studies. Some of the women who develop diabetes during pregnancy will unfortunately remain diabetic after delivery. It is thought that the women who continue to have high sugars after delivery were likely undiagnosed type 1 or type 2 diabetics. Gestational diabetes is more likely to occur in older women, women who are obese, certain ethnic groups (Hispanics, American Indians and African Americans) and women who smoke.

In part 2 we will discuss how to tell if you have diabetes, diabetes and its consequences and a brief discussion on its management.

Type 2 diabetes is the most prevalent type of diabetes, and is accountable for over 80% of diabetes cases world wide.

It is commonly found in adults but sadly nowadays, many adolescents are developing this type due to an intake of excess food and a sedentary lifestyle with little or no exercise.

How should it be treated? How should it be handled?

The first step is that a diabetic must always be conscious of his blood sugar levels. A sufferer must check his blood sugar levels regularly to ensure it does not rise and when it does rises, takes effective steps to bring it down to tolerable levels.

The next step is to curtail food intake. Basically, diabetes is caused when the body over a period of time takes in more calories than it can handle. This impairs the pancreas and leads to insulin resistance. And since insulin breaks down the body’s sugar, an excess of sugar accumulates in the body.

Since carbohydrates are the major source of sugars(glucose) in the body, it is recommended that carbohydrates account for between 40-60% of the their daily intake of food of a diabetic. With a reduction in the intake of carbohydrates will come reduction in the quantity of sugar available in the blood system.

One must also reduce the intake of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats as this can negate the effect of the lower carbohydrate intake. The two fats can be substituted with saturated fats.

Diet should be kept to a regimen of 1,500 - 1,800 calories a day of food. Variables exist in the calorie intake due to factors such as height, sex drive, age and other issues of the concerned persons. What matters is that the diabetic controls his or her food intake for the purpose of managing the blood sugar levels.

The next step is exercise. Exercise to me is the most important.

Exercise has the ability to not only burn off the excess body fat but most importantly has the natural ability to cut down the food intake of the sufferer by reducing the appetite for food.

So what kinds of exercises are best for a diabetic?

It has been found out that a an exercise that is a mix of aerobic and resistance training had the best results on glycemic levels. Though aerobics and resistance training can be conducted separately, the best results were gotten when they were combined.

The amount of exercise needed is not extreme but has to be consistent. For most people, exercise starts off with a little of fanfare and after a while, interest dims and the exercise regime stops. Consistency in the exercise regimen is the key here to reducing the weight and therefore glycemic levels.

The truth about diabetes is that once the weight is well controlled, the level of sugar in the blood drops to tolerable levels.

Most sufferers must see to it that they develop a healthy exercise regime which they adhere to so as to bring their glycemic levels down and also reduce their appetite for foods.

Even a brisk 45minutes walk everyday or taking the stairs rather than the lifts can make a remarkable difference.

It is common to prescribe drugs for diabetes treatment. Type 2 however responds very well to exercise and a sensible diet.

If however the above regimen does not appeal to you, perhaps you find it too tasking or unappealing, it is advised you follow a drug regimen.

Being a diabetic is not the easiest thing on earth. You have to live with constant blood sugar monitoring, diet restrictions, strict exercise routines and a whole host of other paraphernalia to tie you down.

However, type-2 diabetics (the non-insulin dependent type) can take a lot of measures to ensure that they keep their medication and/or insulin doses to an absolute minimum. For even type 1, insulin dependent diabetics, these same measures will ensure that they have a higher quality of life, and will halt the progress of the disease.

Here are a few tips towards controlling diabetes and still living a full life:

(a) Eat healthy. Avoid white starch, sugary foods and trans fats. Opt for whole grains, green vegetables, and cold-pressed oils - keep the empty calories in sugar and white starch to a minimum. Diet is one of the critical areas where a diabetic is in full control.

(b) Exercise regularly. Whether the gym, yoga, Pilates or martial arts, keep your metabolism going. Make sure that your body burns off all the sugar that enters it, so the blood sugar levels stay down. Look up exercises that enhance the activity of your pancreas and Islets of Langerhans, which is where the insulin in your body is produced.

(c) Stay de-stressed. Stress is one of the worst enemies of the human body. It causes overproduction of fight-or-flight hormones, which result in a slowdown of the body’s vital processes like digestion. Therefore, complex foods are not metabolized as effectively as they ought to - causing an increase in blood sugar. Try mind-body exercise routines and incorporate a few minutes of meditation into your daily life to decrease the stress you go through.

(d) Monitor your sugar levels. Some diabetics have triggers that cause their sugar levels to spike up. This could be a specific food, a stressful circumstance, or something quite random that you’ll have to think for a while to figure out. Monitor your sugar levels several times a day at the outset to figure out what your triggers are, and time your medications and doses accordingly.

A good combination of healthy, un-processed food, regular exercise, and low stress levels is always the key to maintaining good health. When you are diagnosed with a chronic condition like diabetes, preserving your basic health blog reviews becomes essential to win your fight against the "silent killer". So cut out the junk foods, work out thrice a week, and you will definitely see yourself growing healthier and more able to fight diabetes.

You can gather all the important information about health blog reviews from online website. These websites are reliable and will give all possible information about the treatment and causes of diabetes. You can find a good website through blog reviews.

Many people are suffering from the problem of diabetes worldwide. The health concern of diabetes can strike anybody and is not dependent on factors like gender or age. There are particular things that will raise your chance of going through diabetes manifolds. Read on to know about these factors and in which way they may end up in the occurrence of diabetes.

As is generally known, obesity is a strong risk factor, especially for type 2 diabetes. Any obese person has many more likelihood of becoming diabetic than an individual with normal Body Mass Index. Needless fat negatively impacts the insulin levels in human body. As your body weight goes up, the capacity of your insulin tends to decline. This leads to increase in sugar level of your body. You must maintain proper body mass to be certain that you look healthy enough. At the same time it is critical to maintain balance and never turn overweight. For this, make sure you get a lot of exercise, at least 30 minutes a day would do the trick.

Sedentary lifestyle is another risk factor for diabetes. Your blood sugar levels are certain to be low if you are physically active. Also, muscle cells have more insulin receptors in comparison to fat cells. So, when you exercise, the insulin resistance of your body decreases. This stabilizes your blood sugar levels. Besides, inadequate activity or a leisurely way of life lifestyle is one of the prime causes of obesity, which in turn increases the danger of diabetes.

Unhealthy eating habit is another prime cause of diabetes. People who are into wrong diet habits easily fall prey to the problem of diabetes compared to ones who take healthy diet. Consumption of sugar is the main culprit for the difficulty of diabetes. Besides sugar another thing that can contribute to hike in sugar levels of the blood is carbohydrates. They are extraordinarily straightforward easy to digest and thus contribute majorly to body’s sugar levels. This is the proven fact that you want to cease from eating carbs and sugar rich preprocessed food. It is a clever decision that you incorporate more fiber in your diet.

Family history and genetics also play an important role in causing diabetes. If either of the parents or someone in the family is diabetic then the possibilities are robust that you too could be a victim of the issue. Afro-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and indigenous Americans all have a higher than standard rate of type two diabetes due to hereditary factors.

Additionally to the above debated reasons; other factors that increase the possibility of diabetes are high blood pressure, age, high cholesterol levels and many others. You can’t do much about preventing yourself from factors like family history. However, you still have control over other that kind of weight and diet. It’s preferable to pinch the issue in the bud. Keep an eye out for these risk factors and take acceptable cares so you can prevent the problem from arising at all.

This is just basic information concerning the TLC diet for diabetic patients.

The acronym TLC stands for Therapeutic Lifestyle Change and is diet for diabetics

Diabetic patients with abnormal levels of cholesterol in their blood are usually advised to follow the TLC diet. This diet involves reduction of foods that are high in cholesterol and also promotes fast and effective weight loss. It consists of certain restrictions in the diet as well as increased activity levels. A diabetic patient on a TLC diet is required to do some physical activities.

The following points are important diet recommendations which should be observed. These are:

1. Total fat consumption should be only 25 - 35% or less of total carbohydrates consumed every day

2. Only 7% or less of saturated fats of the total calories should be consumed per day

3. Polyunsaturated fats should be 10% of total caloric intake per day (example: margarine)

4. Monounsaturated fats should be not less that 20% of daily caloric intake

Following these specifications in the TLC diet and intake at the right proportions can decrease the cholesterol levels and can lead to immediate weight reduction.

Another aspect of the TLC diet is proper consumption of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates should consist of 50-60% of the daily caloric intake. The participant is also encouraged to eat a good amount of fibre. 20-30 grams of fibre is TLC Diet recommendation. Excellent sources of fibre include barley, psyllium, beans and oats. Fibre has a number of nutritional benefits and one of them is that is increases intestinal bulk so a person can feel full longer and it encourages good digestion.

This diet also consists of consumption of lean protein. 15-20% of the daily caloric intake should consist of lean protein. Participants of this diet are also required to maintain cholesterol intake and they should not reach 200 mg.

So, if you have Diabeties, along with High Cholesterol and you need to control your weight, you should consider using ProShape RX Pills along with a health diet low in cholesterol. The product is 100% naturally pure and has no side effects

Are you a diabetic suffering with high cholesterol? If you are, then you need to go to the Official Weight Loss Guide to find out what you need to do.

Did you forget to test your blood-sugar before eating? Even the best diabetes management can go ka-blooey with a slip in memory. And sometimes, let’s admit it, we didn’t really forget. We just wanted to get to the food without the delay of a test. It is easy to just eat, and then say, "Oops! I forgot to test!".

We might try to catch up with testing and adjustments later, but this simply doesn’t work. It blows your average for the day because you don’t know what your blood sugar level was or how much insulin was needed, if any.

If you forget to test your blood-sugar and you suddenly remember after one or two bites, then go ahead and quickly test right away. The reading will still likely be higher than if you had tested when you were supposed to, but at least you’ll have a better idea of your pre-meal blood-sugar level than a blind guess. If you use a fast-acting insulin you might want to go ahead and take some if the reading is really up there.

If it’s been more than a few bites or a few minutes, then it’s probably useless to test now. Wait an hour after the meal to test, and again at two hours after the meal. You can make reasonable adjustments at the two hour mark, but again, your average for the day will be more guesswork than tested accuracy.

Be sure to mark in your record book that you missed or delayed testing at the right time. If you use a diary system to help you control and manage your diabetes, be sure to include it there as well. By making a record of it, you emphasize it as an error in your mind. This will help motivate you to test before eating in the future, especially if it was a case of just saying the heck with testing, gimme the food.

Of course the best thing is not to forget in the first place. Here are a couple of ideas to help you to remember to test before eating. First, always have a test kit available. It seems obvious, but if your kit is at home while you are dining out, then you can’t very well test your blood sugar.

Therefore I recommend having several test kits. Keep one or two at home - near the kitchen or dining room and by your bed - one in your purse if you carry one, perhaps one in your lunch box or locker at work or school. Don’t keep one in your car, however, as the temperatures will often be too hot or cold for accurate readings. Insulin is also very sensitive to temperature.

Try to eat your meals close to the same time every day. Not only is this a good idea for blood sugar control, having a regular routine creates and reinforces habits — such as test first, then eat.

If you have a fancy watch with timers and alarms you can set reminder alarms for pre-meal testing as well as for two hours after meals.

Use bright colored "sticky notes" to remind you. Post them on the refrigerator and pantry door, cabinets, or wherever you will see it when you start to fix a meal or go for something to eat. A bright neon-purple or hot-pink note with a simple: DID YOU TEST? is a quick and simple reminder.

If you wear glasses to read you can put the same message on your glasses case. When you go out to eat, you will be reminded when you pull out your glasses to read the menu.

Think about the circumstances where you forgot to test. If you had it to do over again, how might you have remembered? Put all of these things together and make it a part of your diabetes management, to keep it working smoothly.

If a person has diabetes it means that either the pancreas produces little or no insulin or the cells do not respond normally to the insulin. Diabetes can develop gradually, very often without symptoms, over many years. People with diabetes are more likely to die from these conditions than the general public. So, prevention should be the best medicine whether you have diabetes or not.

There are two main types of diabetes, Type I and Type II. People with type I diabetes cannot make their own insulin in the body and must take insulin injections to meet the regular requirement. In type II diabetes, the patient’s body makes insulin, but is not able to use it effectively. Type II diabetes might have also a genetic component.

However, the primary goal in treating diabetes is to minimize any elevation of blood sugar glucose. Treatments for diabetes include drugs, prescription medications, alternative treatments, surgery, and lifestyle changes.

Diabetes is one of the few diseases where food monitoring is one of the treatments. Diet plays an important role in managing high blood sugar. The proper diet for diabetics is a consistent, well-balanced diet that is high in fiber, low in saturated fat, and low in concentrated sweets. Weight reduction and exercise are beneficial as well, because in most cases diabetes affects people with overweight.

In case diet and exercise aren’t enough, diabetes medications or insulin therapy are needed. The amount of insulin you need depends on your age, weight, exercise level, type of diabetes and how difficult your blood sugar is to control. Insulin lowers blood sugar by allowing it to leave the blood stream and enter the cells.

Diabetic blood sugar control is an important aspect of all diabetes treatment plans. Blood glucose sugar levels should be checked frequently - about every four hours or at least before meals and at bedtime. Once it can be controlled, the person affected with diabetes can lead a normal life if he or to be able to keep the blood sugar levels within permissible levels.

There are also natural methods of treatment available. One of them is naturopathy. It is the system of healing by means of natural remedies such as light, water, air, heat and other physiological measures. Healing by natural method is chiefly drugless and blood less.

Every year there are more than 200,000 people that die from complications due to diabetes. Everywhere you look more and more people are becoming afflicted with this awful disease. Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. It is one of the leading causes of blindness and causes more than 40 percent of all kidney failures.

When someone suffers from Type I Diabetes they are unable to produce insulin. The glucose becomes stagnated instead of moving into the cells of the body to produce energy. In about 10 percent of all Type I diabetic cases, there is a very high risk for heart disease, stroke, limb amputations and other vascular disease-related complications. A Type 1 Diabetic usually must inject insulin for the rest of his or her entire life.

There are basically 5 areas that can immediately impact the fight towards reversing diabetes and reducing diabetic complications.

1 First and foremost always drink plenty of water. Water will help to flush out your system and keep you fully hydrated

2 Diet is extremely important when reversing diabetes. Eating the right foods will help to provide proper nutrition for the cells of the body and maintain the body’s use of insulin.

3 Reducing the amount of carbohydrates is important because these foods will produce a high content of sugar. Because the body struggles to break down the sugar that is produced by a diet high in carbohydrates, it is vitally important to eat a balanced diet and to avoid certain foods that are too high in carbohydrates.

4 An increase in protein consumption is important. More protein in your diet will help with the repair of cell membranes, which could possibly aid the cells ability to begin to accept insulin.

5 Always include vegetables with your diet. Vegetables will help to reverse diabetic symptoms by providing nutrients and a great deal of fiber. The fiber will aid in keeping the body

Diabetes and exercise: It goes without saying that exercise is extremely beneficial to the diabetes sufferer. By combining these few ideas stated here in this article and gaining access to the Original Diabetes Reversal Report someone can soon begin to reverse the risk factors associated with diabetes.

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) says it does not know what causes diabetes. However, even though many major players appear to be pro-economic rather than pro-diabetic, the ADA gives a good piece of advice in their publication, that all diabetics need to pay attention to. It says, "The cause of diabetes is not known, but there are things you can do to treat yourself." - Diabetes A to Z.

What is not stressed enough is the well-documented fact that even though you may already have developed the disease, you can control or remove the symptoms of diabetes to the extent that you have a completely nondiabetic profile, without using medication.

Type 2 diabetes is largely a condition resulting from lifestyle habits AND when we know what factors give rise to the condition, we can reverse those symptoms by removing the conditions that caused them in the first place. But there are 2 great hurdles that we face with this seemingly "simplistic" approach.

The first is that it requires a disciplined and persistent approach to naturally control blood sugars. Our doctors, medical care givers, and the pharmaceutical communities know this all too well.

Secondly, a change of lifestyle can be so powerful that if every diabetic were to successfully control their blood sugars by natural means, it would mean significant loss in revenue to the medical and pharmaceutical communities, and…

That I am not really sure that economics would consider sensible… seriously!

If we Knew the Cause of Type 2 Diabetes…

Okay, so there are tens and hundreds of articles that make it clear that certain key factors such as lack of proper sleep, lack of proper diet, uncontrolled body weight, and lack of regular physical exercise are more significant factors than even heredity that cause the development of adult onset of diabetes.

What if the same effort that is used to get people to educate their children was used to encourage people to care for their bodies? What if there were not so much competition and rip-off by the drug companies in selling their drugs? What if we weren’t "programmed" to think that a pill is the answer to everything even a bad thought? What if we had not gotten accustomed to always have to expect instant correction to a problem that we have taken years to develop?

Do you see the problem?

Not too long ago, I spoke to a nurse about this situation and she said: "Don’t you believe that we [medical professionals] know that natural intervention, i.e. dietary and lifestyle change could give many patients better and more long-term results? We know that, but we also know that most patients are not able to stick with such a program." She went on to tell me that, that is why doctors have to prescribe synthetic drugs - patients will not adhere to a lifestyle change.

Four Simple Anti-diabetes Things You Can do Now

In dealing with type 2 diabetes, we must simply consider what causes diabetes - and we do know a lot. But what do to make sure we have better health, ESPECIALLY during challenging economic times? The time has past for us to be acting carelessly, depending continuously on drug intervention for relief.

Type 2 diabetes is largely a condition resulting from a damaged lifestyle. We can fix that. Here are four key steps that I have used to remain prescription-drug free since 2006, and maintaining an A1c of 5.2. Anyone with type 2 diabetes can do this:

[1] Change to a high fiber, complex carbohydrate, low protein plant-based diet. I know this is contrary to many popular beliefs, but consider that carbohydrates are not the culprit in diabetes, high fat diet is. Most dietary considerations have been formulated to maintain good economic health; a high fiber, complex carb diet is patterned after the way nature provides our food and is better in the long run.

[2] Get regular physical exercise. It does not matter if you are physically challenged. You don’t need to go to a gym of fitness center either. The key is to be consistent in whatever you do. When it comes to exercise, however, the more aggressive and consistent you are the better the results. For example, walk at a brisk pace [don't run!] for 30 - 60 minutes every day, 7 days a week for 8 to 12 weeks and see what that does to your high blood sugar. You will lose your medication! It happened to me.

[3] Rest. There are several studies that link development of symptoms of type 2 diabetes with improper sleeping habits. Today’s lifestyle lend itself to late nights watching television and getting no more than a few hours. The research is showing that 7-8 hours of good sleep promote longevity.

[4] For extra boost, use a supplement that lowers blood sugar. There are hundreds of claims all over, but I can only speak for a couple that I am able to "swear" by. Milagro de la Selva diabetes tea and Diametrix Blood Sugar Support. The good thing about ALL these four suggestions is that their effects go beyond helping in diabetes control - they benefit other conditions and improve overall health WITHOUT SIDE EFFECTS.

For example, candies and chocolates are restricted from your diet for obvious reasons. However, there are other foods that have hidden sugar within; these foods should also be removed from your diet to help regulate your blood glucose levels.

Maltose, one of the sugars that seems less noted, is found in breads, pastas, some breakfast cereals, wheat and grains. Fructose sugar is found in fruits, corn syrup and honey. Sucrose is actual sugar, such as you put in your drink or on foods to sweeten them. Lactose is located in dairy products, such as cheese, milk, yogurt, and cottage cheese.

Other items to steer clear of are alcohol, deep fried foods, processed foods, items labeled "lean, light and/or health foods". Fruit juices also contain large amounts of sugar, and should be diluted with water. Reducing the intake of salt will not only keep blood pressure down, but will help manage further complications with diabetes.

These are the foods that should be removed from your diet if you are diabetic:

*Potatoes, beets, carrots, corn, peas, legumes and certain nuts due to high starch content.

*Barely, wheat, rye, breakfast cereals (containing little grain), pastries, pies, cakes, white rice, white breads, and foods made with ‘white’ flour.

*Sweets, such as chocolates and candies, sweetened applesauce.

*Milk (only in small doses), yogurts, cottage cheese, eggs.

*Fried meats, pork bacon, fried seafood, or foods prepared in lard, and poultry with skin.

*Sodas, energy drinks, flavored coffee drinks, heavy creamers, regular beer, wine, fruity alcoholic beverages.
*Potato chips, corn chips, butter flavored popcorn, donuts, packaged cookies.

While this is not a complete list of which foods to steer clear of, it does address many common items that should not be consumed regularly.

Diets challenge everyone, especially diabetics, who have other health issues to manage besides losing weight. Diabetics must balance their blood glucose levels and prevent heart and vessel disease, a higher risk for them. Managing cholesterol – the main factor for vessel and heart disease – requires some diet adjustments.

Diabetics need to eat less saturated fat and bad cholesterol, which occur in animal products – meats (especially liver), dairy products, and egg yolks. To encourage good cholesterol, eat unsaturated fats (vegetable oils) and monosaturated fat (olive oil). Foods high in fiber help to reduce bad cholesterol in the blood.

Fiber also helps diabetics maintain healthy blood glucose levels. Fibrous foods include fruits, vegetables (preferably raw and unpeeled), peas and beans, plus whole grain breads and cereals. Glycemic index (GI) indicates how quickly glucose gets released into the bloodstream from a certain food. Some high GI foods to avoid include dates, raisins, potatoes, most salad dressings, white bread and rolls, and processed breakfast cereals not based on oats, barley or bran. High GI foods elevate insulin and stimulate excess fat storage on the body.

Keeping body fat and weight low helps diabetics stay healthy and heal better. Eating plenty of non-starchy vegetables and high fiber foods helps in two ways. Low calorie, high fiber foods encourage weight loss, taking longer to digest and reducing hunger. Also, these foods have a low glycemic index, helping keep blood glucose level. Other low glycemic carbohydrates include whole grains, pasta, and rice.

Diabetic diets should distribute calories in the following way: carbohydrates – 50-60%, protein – 12-20%, and fat – no more than 30%. Eating small frequent meals helps appease hunger and maintain blood sugar levels. By following all these general guidelines, diabetics can avoid heart disease, balance glucose levels, and maintain a healthy weight.

Despite the considerably obvious signs of diabetes this disease can go undetected for quite some time. The longer diabetes goes undetected, the worse the disease becomes and it is harder to treat. Diabetes is most common with people who have a close relative with diabetes, with women who had gestational diabetes or gave birth to a baby weighing 9 pounds or more, and African- Americans. In the case of people who have a relative with diabetes this only includes their immediate family which means their brother, sister, mother or father.

There are two main types of diabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes but many of the symptoms for both types are the same. The symptoms found in both types of diabetes include a frequent need to urinate. You won’t be able to go as long as usual without feeling the need to urinate and when you do postpone your trip to the bathroom you may suffer incontinence. An increase in thirst is another major sign that you may have diabetes. When diabetes goes untreated your body tries to heal itself by using up the water in your body so you will feel thirsty often. Weight loss is a major symptom of type 2 diabetes. Blurred and unclear vision is a sign of diabetes and if left untreated can lead to temporary or permanent blindness. Numbness and tingling in the feet is another sign of diabetes.

The above symptoms of diabetes don’t all have to happen at the same time and although you may be experiencing all of these symptoms they may not be linked to diabetes at all. In the beginning stages of diabetes there may be no symptoms present at all and if you are already aware that you have diabetes and are already being treated for it then you won’t have these signs and symptoms of diabetes. The best thing you can do is see a doctor and get tested for diabetes.

Did you know there are a number of symptoms that show you may have diabetes? If you’ve developed a rash that is raised or darkened you may have what’s referred to as a diabetes rash, a precursor to diabetes that should be looked at right away. If you discover this rash it may actually help you discover a risk of diabetes before it can develop; you may even be able to stop the disease’s development before it can take root.

There are a number of types of rashes that can be caused by diabetes and all of them have different symptoms you should look out for. Eczema is one type of skin rash that can occur with diabetes. Another type is referred to as diabetes dermopathy, and shows up in one third of people with diabetes. This type of rash occurs as depressed, dark spots on the body–usually on the legs. This can also be mixed with eczema. Scleroderma diabeticorum is another type of skin condition that can occur with the disease and will show up as thickening on the skin of the back and neck. Many rashes that show up before diabetes appear as rings or arc shapes and often appear on the fingers, ears, chest and abdomen. Blisters may also be common on the fingers and toes.

While some of these conditions may have causes unrelated to diabetes–such as a reaction to an allergen or insulin–a sudden appearance of any unexplained rash should be checked out by a doctor. Rashes that are raised or darkened are particularly worrisome if you’re concerned about developing diabetes. If you have high-risk factors for diabetes–such as high blood pressure or a family history–you should always take rashes and blisters on your body as a serious sign that the disease could be developing.

The symptoms of diabetes are similar in children and adults. The symptoms in both often go unnoticed. The different types of Diabetes are Type 1, an autoimmune disease, and Type 2, caused by insulin resistance. Type 1 diabetes usually develops in children and Type 2 in adults. However, the recent rise in obesity in children is making Type 2 a more common problem. Both types of diabetes have the same symptoms even though the cause is different.

The most noticeable symptoms of Diabetes in both children and adults are increased thirst, frequent urination, increased hunger, and fatigue. These symptoms are easily attributed to other causes, which is why people sometimes go undiagnosed. The increase in thirst and urination are caused by excess sugar in the blood stream. To counter the high blood sugar, the body pulls fluid from the tissues, resulting in thirst. Frequent urination results from the diabetic drinking more fluids to counteract the thirst. The increase in hunger is a direct result of the body not having enough insulin available. Muscles and organs do not get enough glucose if there is not enough processed because of insulin levels and then hunger occurs. Fatigue sets in when the body is deprived of the glucose it needs for energy. Other symptoms one should be aware of are blurred vision, decreased healing capability, and patches of darker colored skin.

Type 1 Diabetes will require treatment with insulin and the close supervision of a doctor. Type 2 Diabetes can often be managed, and prevented, with appropriate diet and exercise. People at risk for Diabetes or that develop any of the symptoms at any age, should seek out a medical diagnosis and treatment.

Adult Onset Diabetes (AKA glucose intolerance)is reaching epidemic proportions. The main causes of this disease are obesity, lack of physical exercise and stress. Can it be prevented? Yes, it can. In July 2004 after 2 abscesses in 6 months, my blood sugar was tested and I was found to be pre-diabetic. Pre-diabetes is a danger zone for your blood glucose level, higher than normal but below true diabetic glucose levels. If changes are not made to lower it back to normal levels diabetic problems will probably occur soon. My doctor sent me to a Certified Diabetes Educator for a 2 hour session on the disease and proper eating habits. It took over a year but I got my glucose level back to normal.

Just a few lifestyle changes can prevent Diabetes. First, exercise more. Your goal should be 5-30 minute workouts weekly with both aerobics and strength training. Exercise helps prevent Glucose Intolerance in several ways. It increases your muscle mass, enabling you to burn more fat. It also transfers glucose from your bloodstream and into your muscles. (glucose is muscle fuel) Exercise also helps control stress.

Eating habits can help you dodge diabetes. The most important is eat breakfast, the first meal after arising from sleep. People who skip breakfast end up eating too much at lunch. People need to break out of the "3 square meals a day" box and try to eat smaller meals supplemented with snacks throughout the day. This way, your glucose level will not rollercoaster during the day with accompanying hunger attacks and the resultant unnecessary overeating. Avoid high fat foods,(bacon, sausage) processed foods, (microwave meals, candies, cakes) and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. You will notice increased energy and concentration levels even if you are not pre-diabetic or have normal blood glucose levels.

Diabetes is a disorder of the body’s metabolism, which is the way food is digested and used for energy and growth. Most of what we ingest is broken down into a form of sugar. This sugar from is called glucose and is the main provider of fuel for the human body. Diabetes affects the way the body uses food for its energy. The glucose moves through the body’s blood and enters cells to be used as fuel. The hormone insulin helps move the glucose through the cells. A healthy pancreas changes the amount of insulin based on the amount of glucose. If someone has diabetes, this process is broken down and the levels of blood sugar increases.

There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2 and gestational. Before 1921 when insulin was discovered, everyone who suffered from type 1 died within just a few years. Insulin was not a cure, but was the first big breakthrough for treatment. Taking insulin is a therapy for type 1 and blood glucose testing is a therapy for type 2. Physical activity and healthy eating habits are important for both type 1 and type 2. Below are the best foods for a diabetic broken down into three categories:

CARBOHYDRATES

Oats, bran, porridge, apples, barley, citrus, peaches, berries, pears, avocados, plum, beans, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, celery, lettuce, cucumber, onions, mushrooms, peas, olives, pepper, tomatoes and spinach.

PROTEIN

Beans, lentils, soybeans, millet, Brazil nuts, pine nuts, peanuts, free range chicken and turkey (skin removed), lean cut of meats, pork, beef lamb, and veal, free-ranged chicken eggs (no duck and goose eggs)

FAT

Oils- pure olive, sesame, soybean, avocados, avocados, salmon, tuna, mackerel, herrings, nuts and seeds, spreadable and unsaturated margarine

Diabetes is a medical condition that develops when the body does not produce insulin or use insulin properly. Secreted by the pancreas, insulin is a hormone that regulates sugar levels in the blood.

Approximately 24 million people in the United States have high blood sugar. According to the American Diabetes Association, about 6 million people, or one out of every four are not aware that they have it.

One reason this disease can go undetected is that many of the symptoms seem relatively minor. Knowing the symptoms can lead to early detection and treatment.

Anyone experiencing excessive thirst, frequent urination, unusual weight loss, irritability, extreme hunger, blurred vision or increased levels of fatigue should seek medical attention. Even one of these symptoms can be a sign to see your doctor.

Measuring your risk factors is another way to determine if you should be evaluated. The most common risk factors include being over 45 years old, having a family history of Diabetes, having a personal history of Diabetes during pregnancy, living a sedentary lifestyle, and having a high body mass index.

Ethnic background can also make you higher risk. The disease develops more frequently in Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, Latinos, Asian Americans and African Americans.

Preventing the development of high blood glucose levels can be as simple as making some minor lifestyle changes. The most effective tools for preventing diabetes are diet and exercise.

Include vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, lean meats and non-fat dairy foods in your diet. Regular physical activity including aerobics, strength training and flexibility exercises will help to improve your health and contribute to managing blood glucose levels as well.

By making simple changes in your daily life you can make great strides in lowering your risk for health issues and improve your overall quality of life.

Diabetes cripples a large portion of the population of the world every year. Its affects on the body can range from slight signs and symptoms to contributing factors for amputation and death. With these factors being on the forefront of everyone’s mind it is only natural to look for a safe and inexpensive way to help control blood sugar levels.

People with Type I diabetes are insulin dependent and have to monitor their blood sugar very closely. These individuals can benefit from watching their diet as well as taking natural supplements that will help decrease glucose intake. Any natural method of control for Type I diabetes is simply to control sugar intake not the processing of the glucose. In Type II diabetes the client or patient has a little more ability to affect blood sugar levels. Often diet control can aid in the process.

That being said, it makes sense that herbs and natural foods can help decrease the need for insulin in the Type II diabetic. This offers a wide range of control options to assist in both the management and control of diabetes. Gestational diabetes, acquired during pregnancy, should not look to natural control of diabetes without express approval from their physician. Some herbs and diet changes can cause damage to the unborn child as well as the expecting mother.

Looking for natural alternatives is a safer way to help control hyperglycemic levels and can be more cost effective. As with all diabetic programs, you should consult your physician prior to changing any medical regimen. In most diabetic cases weight loss, diet, and close blood sugar monitoring is still the best line of control offered to people.

When you are diabetic, you have to take special care of your body to make sure that you keep your blood sugar at the appropriate level. Eating the wrong foods can cause high blood sugar levels in your body, something you want to avoid. Eating healthy foods that make you feel good is one step in the right direction to controlling your blood sugar, but it’s also important to know what foods not to eat. Avoid these foods to make it easier on yourself to keep your blood sugar under control.

Here are a few common foods to avoid if you are diabetic:

1. Pasta

Not all pasta should be avoided, but it should be eaten in moderation. Certain types are likely to raise your blood sugar level. Try smaller servings, and only eat a whole wheat pasta instead of white pasta.

2. Desserts

Many desserts contain sugars and flour that can be harmful to your blood sugar levels. There are plenty of cookbooks with recipes written for those who are diabetic. These will let you enjoy a sweet dessert without the negative side effects.

3. Soda

Items high in sugar, especially sodas and other sweet drinks, can throw your body off track. Avoid these, and find healthier drinks with lower amounts of sugar. Not only will you feel better, but your entire body will be healthier. Soda is bad for anyone’s health, diabetic or not. It just takes those who aren’t diabetic a bit longer to realize this.

When you do eat, keep your meals smaller and follow your doctor’s recommendations. Cutting out large amounts of sugar and aiming for a balanced, healthy diet will improve your mood and your body. Everyone should aim for a better diet, but when you have diabetes you are more aware of how negatively foods can affect you.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body cannot regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. Persons diagnosed either do not produce enough insulin (type 1) or cannot use insulin properly (type 2). Both types not only cause harm to the cells that needs the sugar for fuel, but also causes problems for certain tissues and organs exposed to the high glucose levels. In most cases this can be controlled without medication with a strict diet, eating on a regular schedule and exercise.

While certain foods must be totally given up, others need to be taken in moderation. White sugar, white flour, processed foods, and junk food, must be totally given up. Avoid sweets, fruit sugar (bananas, grapes, strawberries, etc), cakes, starchy vegetables, soft drinks, cream and fried foods. Anything that contains harmful preservatives and too much salt should be avoided. Try and abstain from sweets, ice-creams and chocolates, including the so-called sugar-free types. ‘Sugar free’ foods still contain a high amount of carbohydrates which turn into sugar within your body. Both simple and complex carbs can turn into sugar from 30 minutes to two hours time.

Other forms of control are to increase the amount of exercise each day. Increasing daily physical activity of at least 30 minutes a day will help achieve and maintain a healthy weight. Activity can also reduce the risk of mounting complications such as stroke, heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, and leg ulcers. Smoking and drinking should be used in moderation. Having no more than seven alcoholic drinks in a seven day period and never more than two in one evening will aid in your health. One drink is considered 6 ounces of wine or 12 ounces of beer. Excessive alcohol use is a recognized risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Too much alcohol can cause high blood sugar levels, an increase in triglycerides, and a nerve pain called neuritis. Smoking cigarettes or other form of tobacco noticeably raise the risks for nearly all diabetic complications. Smoking damages blood vessels and contributes to heart disease, stroke, and poor circulation in the limbs.

By following these guidelines, it will not only give you improved health but prevent you from having to take pills or insulin shots. Some people have even found that with consistent attention to diet, exercise, and weight, their diabetes has gone into remission.

Diabetes is a very serious disease that affects millions of people in America. Diabetes is directly related to a hormone called insulin. Whenever the body does not make enough insulin or if the body does not use the insulin right a way, the result is diabetes. You should not go without treatment for the disease because it can result in strokes, kidney failure, blindness, amputations, and heart attacks. There are some early warning signs of diabetes that you should be aware of.

One symptom is excessive thirst. There could be a problem when you are drinking more fluids than you normally do, but you still are unable to quench your thirst. Excessive thirst is usually accompanied by another symptom, which is frequent urination. You need to drink more because your body is removing extra water from your blood, which makes you feel dehydrated. The frequent urination is the result of too much glucose in your blood.

Weight loss is another symptom. The body begins to break down fat and muscle tissue for energy because the body’s cells are not producing glucose. Weakness and fatigue are also associated with the disease. Glucose is used for energy and is suppose to transition into the cells of your body, but it is unable to do that without the help of insulin. Since the glucose is not able to enter the bloodstream, the body becomes energy starved.

Neuropathy, which is tingling or numbness in your hands, legs, or feet, is another symptom to be aware of. It is also important to be aware of blurry vision, repeated infections or cuts and bruises that have a long healing time, and skin that is dry or itchy.

At present there is no known scientific cure for diabetes, either Type 1 or Type 2. The scientists are getting nearer to discovering a cure but there are no definite possibilities as yet. Many clinical trials on mice and humans are being conducted around the world each year in an attempt to find the cure for diabetes.

Having said this, several experiments involving people with Type 1 diabetes have suggested that it can be cured already. Type 1 diabetes sufferers have a pancreas that is not producing any insulin at all. Several patients with Type 1 diabetes have had pancreas transplants that have proved to have been effective at preventing their diabetes and allowed them to be insulin independent. It has not been successful in all cases and the logistics of providing every Type 1 diabetes patient to a new pancreas is unsurpassable.

Another method which when developed further may prove to be a cure for diabetes, is the transplantation of beta cells into the patient. This method has been carried out on both mice and humans but with disappointing results. It was found that the immune system was attacking the transplanted beta cells. This result was also found in a test involving the transplant of stem cells into both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes patients.

Some people may argue that there is already a cure for diabetes. Many alternative medicine and therapeutic practitioners believe that their treatments prevent or disrupt the symptoms of both kinds of diabetes. You can purchase products that are designed to protect the beta cells from harmful symptoms and exude an insulin-like action.

These products can be found online and can be shipped directly to you. Most of the products are quite expensive and so you need to decide if this is the right option for you. It could end up being a waste of money if it does not work for you.

Until a scientific cure for diabetes is found you may wish to keep using the various diabetic supports already available. You can access diabetic supplies in a number of ways. Firstly, it is worth noting that insulin can only be prescribed by a medical doctor and will be dispensed to you by a pharmacist.

All of the other supplies you need can be bought over-the-counter at pharmacies and drugstores; you can also access diabetic supplies via the internet. Items such as syringes, glucose monitors, lancets and testing strips can be ordered online and delivered to you. There are several companies who can provide you with what you need, when you need it.

Diabetics are well supported and there is a lot of information and products available to help control the condition. With the scientific studies getting nearer to a cure for diabetes it may not be long before the condition is eradicated.

No site but DiabetesSupplySecrets.com gives you all the tips and info on free diabetic supplies and related subjects.

Diabetes is a very serious condition that affects millions of Americans. It has the ability to affect every part of the body; leading to additional life-threatening conditions. Taking control of diabetes will be extremely challenging.

However, living with the disease does not mean that your life is over. As a matter-of-fact, taking good care of yourself and taking care of your diabetes will help you feel better.

Although it is not really known, even to modern medicine, the ideal cause for diabetes, it is clear that there are means to control progression. In order to take control of the disease, you must first learn about it.

The disease is the make-up of a metabolic syndrome that suggests that the body utilizes digested food to promote growth and energy. Basically, the main source of energy is food. The digested food is broken down into glucose. After which, it is absorbed by the bloodstream to be distributed to the cells of the body.

The glucose requires the assistance of the hormone called insulin to travel to the cells. Meaning, the insulin, which is produced by the pancreas (gland behind the stomach) is the key that allows glucose entry to cells. Ironically, the insulin also plays significant role in what causes diabetes. Insulin is important to convert the blood sugar or glucose into energy.

In order to take control of diabetes, you must also be aware of the diabetic blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels or ABC’s. Knowing these levels is imperative in that it will decrease your risk of developing more complicating conditions.

Extended high levels of the ABC’s may indicate heart attack, stroke, or other diabetic problems. The A1C test identifies blood glucose levels for up to and over three months. The goal of A1C for most people is below 7.

High blood pressure develops into a disease in its own right. Combined with diabetes makes it that more dangerous. High blood pressure makes the heart work harder to pump blood through the body; causing intense stress. The blood pressure measurement goal for most should be 130/80.

Lastly, high cholesterol levels cause clogs and build-up in the blood vessels. The cholesterol level is measured in LDL goal is less than 100) and HDL (goal is above 40). A good HDL helps remove cholesterol from blood vessels. Basically, high blood sugar or glucose level deteriorates the heart and blood vessels, kidneys, feet, and eyes.

Managing diabetes is challenging, yet it can be accomplished. This third step for keeping diabetes under control is dependent upon a self-care plan. Even if medications are required to maintain normal blood sugar, natural home remedies have proven to be successful.

Implementing healthy life-style changes will not only keep blood glucose at an acceptable range, they are also known to rid of symptoms. A self-care plan consists of a diabetes diet plan. This meal plan consists of healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, as well as fish, lean meats, chicken and turkey (without the skin), dry beans, and whole grain.

Additionally, you should only consume non-fat dairy products. The self-care plan also demands that you get 30 - 60 min of physical activity on most days of the week. Implementing these strategies of a personal self-care plan helps maintain normal blood glucose, but also help you lose weight.

Finally, always stay in touch with your physician to keep control of diabetes. Take initiative to obtain routine care and practice the self-care plan daily. At each visit to your physician be sure that he completes a blood pressure check, foot check, weight check, cholesterol check, and a depression screening.

The cells in the pancreas produce an important hormone called insulin. Insulin is the hormone necessary in controlling the glucose levels in the blood. Glucose levels, sometimes referred to as blood sugar levels, should be maintained in normal range or balance because when insulin levels in the body are off balanced, it results to a condition known as diabetes mellitus (DM) or just diabetes, for short. Diabetes is classified to several types; each is the result of different insulin issue.

The most commonly known type of diabetes today is Type 2 diabetes formerly known as non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) or adult-onset diabetes. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas produces insulin but the body cannot process or respond to it as it normally should. Sometimes the levels of insulin are normal, but the body is just resistant. Other times, the blood sugar levels are too low, even though the hormone is present in the blood. This is known as hypoglycemia. Thus, a person suffering from Type 2 DM, at these times, can be hypoglycemic. Type II diabetes can develop at any stage in life. It is becoming more and more prevalent in children. Type II diabetes can be treated with medications but also by changes in diet and lifestyle.

The other type of diabetes is Type 1 diabetes or juvenile-onset diabetes. This was formerly known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). It is different from type 2 because when someone has this type, their pancreas loses its ability to produce insulin. Type 1 diabetes is considered an autoimmune disorder because the body turns against itself with the immune system attacking the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin and destroying them. Type 1 diabetes is treated with insulin injections or shots, or sometimes with an insulin pump. There is no cure for it.

The third common type of diabetes is gestational diabetes. This occurs during pregnancy and develops in pregnant women that were not previously diagnosed as diabetics. Post partum or after birth, the diabetes often goes away on its own. Though, it does leave these women at increased risk for Type II diabetes later in life.

Diabetes treatment, for some people, remains a mystery. For so many years, people have been led to believe that diabetes has no cure; that once you were diagnosed as a diabetic, you are a diabetic for life.

Indeed, when you think about it a number of diabetes treatment options are geared towards the control of diabetes only. The right diet, regular exercise, diabetic medications or insulin injections are all aimed at regulating blood sugar levels. This means that even if you have to do this everyday, you are not going to get rid of your diabetes totally; the most that you can do is only to control it so it does not worsen.

Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to a host of problems, some of which are debilitating, if not deadly. The unfortunate thing is that that more and more people from all over the world are now confirmed diabetics, making diabetes a worldwide concern; thus the urgent need for the ultimate diabetes treatment.

Thankfully, there just may be, although the ultimate diabetes treatment may not happen very soon. New studies of alternative treatments for diabetes are providing glimmers of hope for diabetics. The stem cell therapy technology and inhaled insulin, for instance, are said to revolutionize diabetes treatment if ever they get approved for implementation.

Stem Cell Therapy

One diabetes treatment proposal is called the stem cell therapy. This form of diabetes treatment which will make use of viable cells injected with proteins to trigger an insulin response. This, however, is still on the developmental stages and is yet to be tested on humans; nonetheless, if all goes well, the stem cell therapy is certainly going to provide relief for diabetics as this can mean no more insulin injections.

Inhaled Insulin

Inhaled insulin is a proposed form of diabetes treatment that enables diabetics to inhale insulin in powdered form via an inhaler. Once inhaled, the insulin goes directly to the lungs and then distributed into the bloodstream.

Apparently, these proposed alternative diabetes treatment options require more studies, and more researches, and of course they have yet to be approved by the regulating bodies prior to implementation.

Another approach to diabetes treatment that is worth looking into is the use of herbal remedies. Actually, a lot of people these days are preferring to go natural, especially when it comes to health. Herbal remedies are safe and without side effects, unlike certain medicines.

A number of herbs and spices are said to work well against diabetes, among which are:

• Cinnamon - cinnamon is very powerful spice in regulating blood sugar levels. Accordingly, a dash a cinnamon can cause a significant drop in the blood sugar levels. Diabetics on medications are even advised to observe themselves closely for signs of hypoglycemia if ever they take cinnamon along with their regular diabetic medications.
• Garlic - garlic not only lowers blood sugar levels, it also improves circulation and immunity to diseases
• Bitter melon
• Fenugreek
• Ginseng tea
• Huckleberry - this is believed to increase production of insulin

These herbs and spices may be taken in different forms and preparations, but of course, it is always best to consult with your diabetologist or physician first before taking any of these.

Though diabetes is a tough and unforgiving condition, it does not always need to be a Mt. Everest in your life…

Everyone gets affected differently by Diabetes as it depends on your age, gender, what type of diabetes you have, your body type, fitness level and many other factors. Doctors like to treat the diabetes with known medications and believe that it is the only way to treat diabetes, but that’s how they have been taught in Medical school. Whether you follow the modern way, or the natural way, the first thing you will have to do is make dramatic lifestyle changes if you are not living a healthy lifestyle.

The first and most important changes you can make is to eat healthy, lose weight and exercise. This will already help a great deal to naturally balance your blood sugar levels.

Treatment will obviously depend on the type of diabetes you have, the sign and symptoms and your response to treatment. Treatment is definitely not just a once off visit to the doctor, but a continually monitoring of your glucose levels on a daily basis, continuous reading of new findings, drastic life changes, and definitely more education. If you are diabetic, then you need to know what it is about, and what you should do and not do. It is also strongly advised that you should lose weight if you are overweight, as the body can use insulin more efficiently, thus stabilizing the blood sugar level.

Can we naturally regulate our blood sugar levels?

Research has proven that it is possible to have very stable and normal glucose levels in our blood with the use of herbal and homeopathic remedies and the needed supplements. The correct supplements can aid in treating the symptoms and thus making it easier to have a normal lifestyle.

Herbal remedies, dietary supplements and the correct lifestyle changes can eliminate the need for prescription medication and can also aid in the prevention of organ and tissue damage associated with uncontrolled diabetes.

Tips for coping with Diabetes

Diabetes Type I sufferers always stand the risk of developing Type II diabetes. Regular exercise will decrease the possibility to developing type II diabetes by as much as 50%. Even if you are a diabetes type II sufferer you should still engage in some exercise, but we suggest consulting a medical practitioner first as to which exercises will be suitable.

As previously said, by losing weight you assist the body in better utilizing insulin, thus if you are over weight, lose it.

It is best to reduced the intake of refined and processed foods that contains high levels of fat and sugar.

Eat plenty of whole grain foods that is rich in Vitamin B and Chromium.

Eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Monitor blood glucose levels on a daily basis.

Natural remedies

Insulate Plus

Insulate Plus is a 100% natural herbal remedy that supports pancreatic health by supporting the Islets of Langerhans and promote systemic balance in the endocrine and circulatory system.

The Insulate Plus will maintain healthy blood glucose levels when used in combination with a healthy lifestyle and healthy food which excludes excess sugar, unhealthy fats, stimulants, artificial preservatives and colorants.

Diabetonic

Diabetonic is a remedy that temporarily corrects imbalances of minerals in the blood and pancreas. These imbalances are caused by the modern farming techniques and lifestyles, making food missing the essential minerals needed. It will also lessen your craving for sugar as the blood sugar levels gets balanced. Having balanced blood sugar levels means more energy as there is a normal range of sugar in the blood that can be taken up by the cells. Diabetonic will also maintain the balance of cell salts in the body as it is a combination of three, cellular-supporting biochemic tissue salts which can be taken up in the cells as soon as the body is low on energy or have sugar cravings.

Tissue salts are naturally occurring in the body and manufactured to ensure safe, yet optimum potency, thus they are safe to use for all ages (from infancy to old age) - as well as during pregnancy!

Conclusion

Regulating and maintaining a normal blood glucose level is possible without the use of modern medicine and other toxins.

It will however require a complete lifestyle change, requiring the sufferer to eat healthy, monitor their blood glucose level daily and engage in exercises. Combined with the natural remedies, this lifestyle change will promote health of the pancreas, liver, circulatory system, visual system as well as overall systemic health.

Type 1: This form is known as insulin dependent diabetes because in this form the diabetic person needs to have daily injections of insulin.

Type 2: This form is known as noninsulin-dependent. As it is slow onset and because it can usually be controlled with diet and oral medication.

Taken regularly, herbs that contain powerful antioxidants can help reduce inflammation, which may lead to the development of type2 diabetes and is also implicated in heart disease, kidney problems, and other life threatening conditions. Discuss taking herbs with your doctor and make sure to monitor your blood sugar levels regularly; when you factor herbs into your new active lifestyle and smart eating plan, you strengthen organ systems weakened by type 2 diabetes.

Some of the most promising alternative treatments for high blood sugar come from herbs the nature’s pharmacy. Let us have an overview…

Fenugreek is an Ayurvedic medicine Its seeds, rich in fiber and protein. A fenugreek compound, called 4-hydroxy-isoleucine, stimulated pancreatic insulin production in rats, and fenugreek seed reduced fasting blood sugar levels. Fenugreek seems to make the stomach empty more slowly, hinder the absorption of carbohydrates, and put the brakes on the movement of glucose through the body-all of which may be due to the fact that fenugreek is extremely high in fiber. Some researchers found that people with type 2 diabetes who took fenugreek had reduced blood sugar levels after eating.

Second is gymnema used in a treatment of diabetes and obesity. The herb has compound called gymnenin, which lessens your ability to taste sweets by monitoring blood sugar frequently, and also diminishes appetite for up to 90 minutes. These revelations have led researchers to theorize that gymnema may battle high blood sugar by:

Boosting release of insulin by making cells in the pancreas more permeable Stimulating insulin-making beta cells in the pancreas Increasing the number of beta cells

Another herb is cinnamon this is not only reduces blood sugar, but also lowers cholesterol and triglycerides, and best of all, cinnamon is delicious sprinkled on oatmeal and other whole grain breakfast cereals.

Discuss your plan with your doctor and should not use herbs if you are pregnant or nursing, unless an herbal practitioner recommend it.

Controlling blood sugar levels is an art. If you want to be an expert in it, you should know the full details in Role of dieting in curing diabetes in a natural way AND List of food a diabetic can eat.

Exercise is great for everyone it has many benefits. However when you have diabetes, exercise can actually save your life. With diabetes complications to minor medical conditions can occur more often then in a person without diabetes.

People with diabetes are more prone to develop heart disease. The risk is contracting this disease is greatly reduced when exercise is incorporated as part of your daily routine. Speaking to your physician and determining what type of exercise routine is best for you will allow you to be more at ease with your diagnosis.

Although your physician will most recommend an aerobic workout, if you are not up for it, he or she can develop something less strenuous. An aerobic exercise routine is usually recommended because it is designed to make your heart work harder and become stronger. What many people do not understand is that an aerobic workout doesn’t mean you have to work up a sweat jumping around in one place, there are many exercises classified under an aerobic workout.

• Walking
• Jogging
• Dancing
• Bicycling

These are all considered to be part of an aerobic workout because they keep your heart working and pumping strong.

Because it is imperative that diabetics take special care of they’re feet, some physicians may recommend a low impact aerobic workout. This type of exercise usually includes biking or swimming.

When you begin your new exercise routine, it is critical that you develop a warm up routine before starting the exercise. Your body will not be used to it and warm ups are a great way to get your body ready for what lies ahead. After you have complete your routine, do the same warm up exercises so you do not shock your body when you suddenly stop your routine. It is recommended that you warm up and then warm down for about ten minutes before and after your exercise routine.

Although exercise is recommended for everyone, and diabetics in particular, it does pose some risks. Your physician will also advise you that no matter what routine you start, it is critical that you monitor your feet for any type of pain, cuts or scratches. If you notice any or have any type of pain, contact him or her immediately. There are too many foot complications that are associated with diabetes.

Also, exercise naturally lowers your blood sugar so continuous monitoring is critical. If your blood sugar gets too low, you can go into hypoglycemic shock. This can also be life threatening. It is very important to your health to monitor your blood sugar level throughout your exercise routine and drink plenty of water before, during and after your routine.

Once you have an established routine, it is relatively easy to spot the warning signs that your blood sugar level is getting low. An excessive heartbeat, shaky, anxious, or lightheadedness are all indications that your blood sugar is below the normal level. It is always a good idea to exercise in with someone. Make sure they know what your condition is and how to treat it should the need arise.

Up to ten years before type 2 diabetes is diagnosed, there are signs of your body resisting insulin. This is why researchers now refer to this as the "silent" epidemic or the "silent" killer. And it is usually the accompanying heart disease they have the most concern with.

7 Important Signs of Insulin Resistance:

1. Hypertension or high blood pressure. This may be the result of the high amount of insulin required to keep your blood sugars normal. What often shows is that as the insulin-level rises so does your blood pressure reading.

2. Elevated triglycerides levels. These levels are often high if you are overweight. It is not just the result of excessive fat intake; refined carbohydrates such as sugar and white flour are the culprits also. Existing body fat is also responsible.

3. Low HDL levels. The way fat is carried on the inside affects your risk of heart disease.

4. Increased abdominal fat. The culprit is a particular type of body fat centered around your abdomen, particularly around the intestines. Usually the male who has this type of fat has a waist much larger than his hips. The females’ waist is at least 80% of her hip measurement.

5. Obesity. Everyone who is obese, or has a high proportion of fat in their body, is insulin-resistant.

6. Fatigue. This is the most common feature; for no apparent reason your spark is no longer there. Some people are tired in the morning, some in the afternoon and some all day. This is because your body’s cells are not getting enough of the glucose they need. Even though there is plenty of insulin, your body is resistant to it’s action

7. Unable to concentrate. Your memory is not so sharp; your brain needs a constant supply of glucose to work properly and fluctuations are sending your blood sugar levels too high, or too low, quickly. This results in disordered memory and foggy thoughts.

To prevent long term complications:

there are a variety of drugs available to help treat elevated triglycerides and low HDLs

it is really important to concentrate on controlling your type 2 diabetes by losing weight and reducing your resistance to insulin

Weigh loss is not always easy but it is doable. Often losing just ten or twenty pounds, (5 or 10 kilograms), is enough to reduce your insulin resistance and blood sugar levels, and therefore your type 2 diabetes. You will also have less worry about heart disease.

Diet for diabetes is essential in the regulation of blood sugar levels. It’s been said many times that the right diet, along with exercise and medication, is key in controlling diabetes.

Why is there a need to control diabetes in the first place? Although diabetes itself is not life-threatening, control measures are necessary so as to prevent complications like kidney problems and heart failure either which can ultimately lead to death. Such being the case, regulating blood sugar levels should therefore be the primary goal of every diabetic treatment plan.

You must know that certain foods trigger abnormal spikes of your blood sugar levels. Thus, it may be necessary to embark on the right diet for diabetes. There are foods that are highly recommended for diabetics to eat; at the same time there are also those that they must avoid.

Ideally, diet for diabetes should comprise of the following:

fiber-rich foods
whole grains, bran, brown rice
vegetables
fresh fruits
nuts, seeds, legumes
fish

Whereas, the following foods should be avoided or at least limited:

foods rich in fat
salty foods
sweets

There is what is called the diabetes food pyramid that clearly illustrates the ideal diet for diabetes. The bottom of the pyramid represents foods that you must eat plenty of, and this includes starches or whole grain starches in the form of bread, cereals, pasta, corn, and potatoes. The next level of the pyramid are vegetables and fruits; next in line are milk, meat and meat substitutes, while at the top of the pyramid are fat and sweets, and these you should very well limit your intake of.

This diet for diabetes also requires that 45% - 65% of the total daily calories should come from carbohydrates, 25-35% from fat, while 12-20% should come from proteins.

Aside from knowing the right foods to eat, it is also important that you know exactly when to eat and how much to eat. Always keep in mind that anything in excess can have negative repercussions to your health.

As you must know not every diet for diabetes works effectively for all diabetics. Each one has different sets of needs and requirements, the reason why it is highly recommended that you see a diabetic dietician to help you come up with the right meal plan based on your body weight and needs. This way, you will not have to eat too much of anything that you shouldn’t, and not too little of those that you should.

If you think that this diet for diabetes seems rather boring, more so if you have a sweet tooth, think again, because with some bits of creativity, you can easily whip up a great meal that is just as delicious as any other meal you have been used to. A glass of fruit shake, a bowl of vegetable soup, and a toast of wheat bread can be a great way to start your day.

Indeed, a diet for diabetes can certainly be palatable, too, and since you are basically using natural products, you can be sure that it will give you loads of health benefits.

You’ll be surprised that this dietary regimen not only regulates your blood sugar levels naturally but makes you feel a lot healthier in the process. So even if you are not a diabetic, you can most certainly achieve better health with this diet for diabetes.

Diabetes affects an estimated 23.6mil people in the United States. Basically it is a serious, life- long condition. The condition has been diagnosed in children and adults alike. It presents with genetic pre-disposition, yet it is generally triggered by environmental factors.

Any individual who has been diagnosed must care for diabetes as if your life depended on it. The American Diabetes Association recommends that any one who has a pre-disposition for developing diabetes receive extensive, regular checkups.

In order to care for diabetes, it is imperative that you are aware of what it is. The condition is a disorder of metabolism. Metabolism is the method of which the body utilizes the digested food to promote growth and energy. The digested food is broken down into glucose or sugar in the blood. The body requires glucose for fuel and energy.

The body’s cells use the glucose, after passing through the bloodstream, for revitalization. In order for the glucose to get into the cells, however, the hormone, insulin must be available. This hormone is produced by the pancreas- gland behind the stomach.

The pancreas is an important organ as it supplies the insulin to the body for it to assist the glucose through the blood to maintain stamina. Specifically, it produces enough insulin to impel the glucose into the bloodstream then into your cells.

In individuals with diabetes, the pancreas does not function properly. There are three main types of diabetes; type 1, type 2 and gestational. Some form of malfunction in regards to the insulin supply occurs in each of them.

Type 1 diabetes, also referred to as juvenile diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces little to no insulin. To care for this type of diabetes, an individual must take insulin daily to live. Juvenile diabetes is basically an autoimmune disease.

Meaning, the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin producing beta cells of the pancreas. People who are developing type 1 diabetes may experience increased urination, constant hunger, weight loss, blurred vision, and extreme fatigue.

The type 2 diabetic must also be aware of its challenges and treatment goals. Type 2 or adult-onset diabetes is the most common of the disease. Mostly associated with old age, obesity, genetics, ethnicity, and a pre- history of gestational diabetes, it requires intense life- style changes. The pancreas produces enough insulin, but the body resists or rejects its chemical make-up.

It is unclear why the body can’t use the insulin effectively. Eventually, as in type 1 diabetes, the insulin production decreases. The glucose begins to settle in the blood causing the body to loose its fuel and energy source. Healthcare professionals recommend that people change their life styles to care for adult onset diabetes.

The diabetic must implement a diabetic diet plan and exercise. Depending on the severity of the condition, oral medication or insulin injection will be prescribed. The symptoms may include frequent urination, slow healing of wounds or sores, and increased thirst or hunger. Unlike type 1 diabetes, the symptoms develop gradually or you may not experience any symptoms to identify at all.

Gestational diabetics must also be aware of how to care for diabetes. This type of diabetes develops in women late in pregnancy. The condition is caused by the combination of hormones of the pregnancy or a shortage of insulin. In most cases, there are no warning signs or symptoms.

More so, women who have experienced gestational diabetes; which generally subsides after birth, have increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Preventative methods include persistent physical activity and maintained body weight.

Conclusively, the primary goal of treating any type of diabetes is to maintain safe blood glucose levels. The body must be able to use the glucose as it is the main source of fuel and energy for the body. When it builds up in the bloodstream, obviously, it can’t be used. The overflow passes through your body via urination.
